The only places close enough to my work to get food and eat in 45 minutes are McDonald's and Taco Bell; not very appetizing or healthful on a daily basis. The high school across the street lets us use the teacher cafeteria, but it's not much better. Despite these glorious offerings, I bring my own lunch. The staff fridge often looks like a science experiment gone amok, so it's out of the equation. Peanut butter and honey has been my lunch staple for the last few years. Good though it is, I need some variety.
The site Lunch in a Box has turned me on to the world of the Bento box lunch. She posts pictures of and details about lunches made for her preschooler, husband, and herself. She also writes tips on food safety, products, and speed.
I am determined to pack healthy lunches for my boyfriend and myself. I purchased a Zojirushi Mini Mr. Bento set which includes a thermal jar, two side bowls, and chopsticks for myself when I have a soup or curry. I found it at Mitsuwa in Costa Mesa. I plan to get the larger Mr. Bento for my boyfriend or for when I want a heartier lunch.
