Reality Check

To me it's so obvious that McCain 'doesn't get it.'  I can't understand how anyone struggling to pay bills, feed their family, or keep their job could possibly believe that McCain is going to help them out.  Each year for the past eight things have only gotten more difficult.  Why give the Republicans another chance?

Lilliputian Houses

My sister and I stayed the night in a miniature house at a campsite near Lake Manapouri in New Zealand and thought it was cooler than sliced bread.  I'm not sure of the square footage, but I was reminded of it today when I read The Next Little Thing? in today's New York Times.  We were completely enamoured with the house even though it didn't have it's own bathroom.  The camp owner's son built it and the details in the woodwork were lovely.  I'm not sure how I'd manage living in one as my sole residence, but I like the focus on smaller houses.  Some people are out of control!  A few houses down from my older sister is a house built for 2 people that is about 10,000 square feet.  Is that really necessary?  This is the house in New Zealand.  Isn't it adorable? 

You could climb a ladder and stick your head out the the "chimney!"

Buster is the name I gave my 2006 Toyota Prius shortly after buying him.  Yesterday I paid $4.69 for a gallon of gas. Regular gas. Not premium or even mid-grade.  I spent  $40.21 on 8.6 gallons of gas.  This filled up Buster's small tank and will last me almost 400 miles, so I'm luckier than most.  With gas prices what they are, I am so happy I handed over the hefty asking price and got him when I did.  I think I'd have a hard time selling my old SUV in today's market, don't you? 

Next week I'm heading out to visit family.  As soon as I get back, I'll be adding a bicycle to my home.  Buster might get jealous when I start leaving him at home.

LA Times Day 4 Slide Show

Fires Day 4

Almost 96 hours later and the Santiago Canyon fire is still burning, along with many others.  The sky may look like it's filling up with rainclouds, but they're plumes of smoke.  Instead of rain falling, there are large flakes of ash drifting down. Here's the view from my driveway; it's daytime.

Maybe it's time to start doing a rain dance.  I'm eager to breath some fresh air.
